LG Electronics 27MP58VQ-P hails from the latest lines of beautiful monitor by LG. It takes its inspiration from a higher end LG Electronics 24MP88HV-S as far as the designed is concerned. However, from the inside they both are different stories. Where LG Electronics 24MP88HV-S is designed for professional use with its 99% sRGB coverage, this monitor is intended for budget oriented people.
There is one thing clear about LG with this monitor and the 24 inch high end counterpart, LG has made it a point to make their monitors stand out with their aesthetics. LG Electronics 27MP58VQ-P is one of the finest looking monitors in the market. Its bezel may not be as thin as that of the LG Electronics 24MP88HV-S, its design is still captivating and its price range is one of the best in the market.
It hasn’t been in the market for too long, but it has won the hearts of many. Many customers are happy with their purchase and have praised the overall build quality of this monitor. The only problem with this monitor is that it is designed for people who do not have work that demands perfect color accuracy and top notch detail in motion quality.
If you want to get cream of the cream, you may want to invest in gaming monitors or professional monitor that are almost thrice as expensive. Admittedly, some people have given this monitor bad reviews because they don’t understand what this monitor is for, or they expect too much from it.
The bottom line is, you get what you pay for. If you are expecting wonders from this 27 inch monitors, then you are better off without it. However, if you really value the budget range and appreciate what it offers within a price tag of less than $200 then read on this LG Electronics 27MP58VQ-P review.
Design and Features
As mentioned earlier, LG has really upped the game with their latest monitors. They have finally put something that gives LG monitor their unique touch and that of course is the strong curved stand. While most of the most of the monitor brands are experimenting with circular or dial shaped stands, LG has done something unique.
There was a time when unique aesthetics on the monitor did not matter quite much. People would settle if the monitor just had the right specs. However, that has changed. People not only are looking for great specs but also for aesthetics.
LG Electronics 27MP58VQ-P delivers just that. With its 27 inch display and the beautiful stand, this monitor can easily by the center of attraction in your living room or any room.
The bezels on this monitor are unfortunately not too thin. They are still not as big as some of the monitors out there. You can still hook multiple of these monitors together to give your an extended display, the bigger bezels can still hamper your experience. Visit the main page for best thin bezel monitors if you are are serious about getting a good multi monitor display setup.
Another issue making this monitor less than ideal of multiple monitor setup is the lack of VESA mount. For many, VESA mounts is an essential feature for double or triple monitor display because then you can hook it hook on dedicated stands. With this monitor unfortunately you cannot. Furthermore, this monitor does not have full adjustability options. So rotating, swivel and height adjustment is out of the question.
What it does have is a great color quality. IPS panels are almost always better in visual detail and color reproduction compared to their TN panel counterparts. Also the fact that IPS panel has become so cheap, you won’t be paying any premium to see the benefits of it.
This monitor goes beyond with its Black Stabilizer technology which is great for gaming. If you find yourself often with dark patches while gaming and you cannot make out what exactly is there, this monitor fixes that by brightening the spots.
It also has other features like Reader Mode which lowers the blue light thus reducing the eye fatigue. It also has four screen split as well as picture in picture feature.
The monitor’s 5 ms response time is also grand; making it ideal for gaming. It is not as good as 1 ms on TN panels, but for a normal eye it is still quite great. Plus the better colors will outweigh this con.
Unfortunately this monitor lacks in this department. It only offers 1 HDMI port and one D-Sub port. Usually 27 inch monitor are expected to feature 2 HDMI ports for interfacing with multiple devices.
However, with the HDMI port, you should be able to connect any device without any issue. The D-Sub is compatible with most motherboards so you should have no problem connecting it with PCs either.
This is one of the biggest positive aspects of this monitor. With a price tag of less than $180 (at the time of writing this article), this 27 inch monitor is basically a steal. Even 24 inch monitors don’t cost this low sometimes. For a 27 inch monitor this is quite the achievement.
Plus, this is an IPS panel monitor with a fast response time. So you are basically getting quite a lot for very little. if you look at some of the 27 inch monitors from Acer or ASUS, you will find they are quite expensive and at the same time, not as good looking.
The cons of this monitor have already been mentioned earlier. Firstly, it has a thick bezel which is not ideal for multiple monitor setups. Secondly, it does not have VESA mounts that you can use to hook this monitor up on stands.
Furthermore, this monitor does not do too well when it comes to ports. They are quite lacking.
The only other important thing to remember is that this monitor is not built for high end use. This is a budget monitor built for simple tasks. Sure it can game and can be used for professional work; however, if you are picky and hardcore, then you are bound to be disappointed.
LG Electronics 27MP58VQ-P Review Conclusion
This is a budget 27 inch monitor in all essence and it should be treated as such. You cannot pay less than $180 for a monitor and then compare it with the cream of the brand. You cannot criticize its performance in hardcore and demanding applications like gaming or professional software because it is not designed as such.
So long as you understand the fact that you get what you pay, then this is the monitor for you. It is great for office, for reading and report writing. It can perform well with gaming just don’t compare it with ASUS ROG or other gaming monitors.
