The first thing you will notice about this monitor is its price hovering just above a hundred dollars which leaves the impression that this is just a basic starter monitor. However when you start to look into this model you will find that it is quite strong for its price for some pretty nice value. From the design to the screen style to the specs this monitor has pretty much everything you need in a monitor without tunneling towards and specific genre. It is always nice to see a product that will satisfy people on a budget while still providing a quality experience. Viewsonic with their pedigree for creating dynamic monitors has another hit here. With a price competing with most of the lower end monitors this one give you a bit more style along with a great picture.
Display and Features
Design is always an important feature for a monitor as it is the thing that will draw you to it in the first place. The size of the screen looks great from far away but up close is what will really make or break how happy you are with your purchase. With that in mind and tons of experience in the market Viewsonic delivers a gorgeous design for this monitor that models after higher priced screen.
With a silver gleam the outline of this monitor stands out from the drab black that traditionally surround monitors in this price range. On top of that we also have a super slim bezel for a near frameless design. They even went black here so you aren’t thrown off when looking at a movie and you can still enjoy the silver stylings when doing other activities. This monitor snaps together quickly from its three pieces and is plug and play for ease of use. Finally we have a triangular stylized base that adds a bit more flare than is common for the price range.
With so much focus on design in a low end monitor it would make sense that they skimped out on the inner workings, though that is not the case here. Here we have a 22 inch IPS LED monitor. Even though it is becoming pretty common the IPS is a nice touch as it allows you to get great image quality along with an incredible range of viewing angles. 178 degrees means even if you are standing right to the side of it you should still be able to tell whats going on.
As far as the resolution goes this model checks out the required basic of a full HD 1920 by 1080 resolution. Not too much to say here as any monitor worth a purchase should hit this mark. The colors and contrast ration on the other hand are pretty stupendous for the price. Though the brightness score can’t quite match the rest of the color stats are comparable to something you might find in a monitor closer to the $300 dollar range. It is nice to see 16.7 million colors available in a monitor for this cheap.
When it comes to specialization this monitor does not really bring anything to special. If you are a gamer unless you enjoy playing slower paced games such as MMO’s then you should still pleased. However if you depend on split second reactions the 7 millisecond response time might be the straw to break the camels back. While the refresh rate of 75 hz does ensure you can hit 60 frames per second if you are very observant the response time could lead to some rage. On the flip side with the respectable color stats this monitor should be able to handle graphic design on a budget pretty well. Gamer’s should beware though while 7 millisecond will do for most people you can’t really ask for much better at this price range.
Like most lower end monitors without a target for true specialization they fall back on providing a variety of viewing modes and a collection of eye care features. The blue light filtering will do wonders to help you in prolonged use as well as allow your eyes to let you sleep at the end of the day without the invisible time you waste due to light poisoning. Flicker free technology also helps for some nice value. The connectivity here is nothing special though as we do not have any USB ports though that is pretty normal for low end monitors. At the same time we do have a HDMI,VGA, and DVI port so you have the full ability to customize how you view your monitor for the situation.
ViewSonic VX2276-SMHD Monitor Conclusion
Whenever you are looking for technology between that $100 and $200 dollar range you know you are not likely to get anything truly special so the aim is to find a product with great value for the price. Viewsonic has accomplished this here with a monitor that should appeal to anyone searching for a monitor on a budget. The design outperforms the majority of similar priced competition and we are not missing any crucial features either. We actually have some superb qualities at points for example the 3W speakers and the color quality are more commonly found above that $200 dollar mark. As long as you are not buying this monitor for a super picky gamer, if money is an issue this is a pretty good model to head home happy.
