Rating:

If you’re looking for a truly immersive experience from you monitor look no further than this Samsung model. It has a curved display so it feels like you are in the action so it is pretty cool but it does have a few of the downfalls common for curved displays.

However they are not enough to take away from the sharpness and vivid colors that this monitor can produce. It is not the fastest as far as displays go but it does have a nice AMD FreeSync for smoothing out your gaming on an AMD card. With a pretty good price for high quality visuals at right around $400 you are getting a great value for a high end monitor if depth of color and immersion are the types of things that excite you.

Design and Features

Samsung went out of their way to make this monitor look sleek all the way to building the cord into the display. We want a curved screen that seems to hug our vision and this model delivers. It has a tremendous maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 taking Full HD visuals and kicking them up a notch.

Widescreen quality HD produces a level of detail that makes the high standard 1080p look dated. The bezel is also pretty small though the actual end of your display is not going to quite reach out to the edge. Nonetheless the visuals are vibrant and magnetic with over 16.7 million colors and a 3000:1 static contrast ration you will see a full range of colors with the type of depth that makes you feel like you are really there.

This display also handles blacks about as well as it does colors for those who dwell amongst the shadows. One low point for this display is it only has a 60 Hz refresh rate restricting the amount of frames you’ll see. The 4 millisecond response time is still pretty good so it does not hold you up too much. This makes this monitor better for casual games like Skyrim where the action is a bit slower and you don’t need to make as many knee jerk reactions. So a major question for any interested party will be how competitive you need to play because while you will feel like you are there, you might also end up a step behind, but at least it will be a gorgeous step.

This type of display is amazing for the right type of game though AMD FreeSync will help smooth out many rough points if you have a compatible graphics card. When it comes to productivity curved screens can be a bit of an issue when you have to turn your head a bit to see.

Another minor issue is you might need to adjust your zoom and move things around to see everything you need to see how you want to see it. You can’t forget about the positive aspects of the curved design though like how it’s easier on your eyes because it is modeled after how we actually see. Whether you are a casual gamer or a graphic designer

I can not stress enough how immersive this screen is and therefore you will enjoy the awe inspiring visuals. It is cool for normal office work too but that’s not what its built for, same with competitive gaming.

Extra Features

With such a large screen and small bezel their is not too much room for extra features. Hand and hand with that most of the extra features are built into the display quality itself. Still it is important to know what your missing.

We do have a HDMI port along with a traditional display port but we don’t have any USB ports for that added connectivity. Since it is a curved screen you wouldn’t expect too much maneuverability and Samsung agrees. The stand is sturdy but not adjustable, on the plus side however it does have a concealed cord design.

The screen is of a matte quality that does pretty well at different levels of light with minimal glare. If you are looking for a grocery list of cool extra feature though this isn’t the model for you. The utility is lacking but that isn’t too bad when you can see all of the individual hairs on a rabbit.

Samsung CH711 Conclusion

This is the gorgeous girl that catches your eye right when you walk through the door. She’s got the beauty and the curves but she is not the quickest, as some might even call her slow. She also doesn’t do too much other than look extremely good either.

This monitor won’t cook well, or raise the kids, but it is still definitely a bread winner. With a pretty affordable price for a WQHD high end monitor as they can easily cost hundreds more the value is still very apparent. You also can’t forget that word I’ve used countless times already, the immersive visuals are really something to marvel at.

All of your friends will be jealous and you will be quite pleased as long as you don’t push this screen past it’s respectable limits. A perfect monitor for anyone who wants a taste of next level visuals but doesn’t want to splurge. Just know there is more utility and speed out there but there is nothing wrong with just looking good and attaching yourself to someone whose going places especially when it comes to tech.
