Rating:

In one word you could call this monitor balance ASUS has made a simply designed screen that delivers a picture that defies its look. With a size of 27 inches this full hd capable monitor is quite robust for its affordable price point. At above two hundred dollars a bit you would expect to find something barely serviceable however the sacrifices to physical design allow for a value heavy picture that will probably fit right into the general consumers mindset. It is not especially made for gamers but still has the type of stats you need to run pretty much any game with minimal issues when it comes to a stable show.

On the other side of the picture it won’t wow you with a hyper defined next level picture, but still has an impressive enough contrast ratio to ensure dynamic images. You might need to put a bit of time into synchronizing the settings with your GPU and additional monitors with controls that are not as intuitive as you can find in other models. At the end of the day for the price the picture is quite splendid and the boring looking one may not be everyone’s first choice, but you can’t argue with results.

Design and Features

The first thing that will catch your eye with this eye care monitor is the massive size of its screen. 27 inches looks great here with a super slim bezel to grab your eyes like a magnet. The size of the screen is quite distracting and it has to be since the rest of the design is about as basic as you can get, with a cylindrical black base as its only attempt at style the story is the screen by necessity. Not a big an issue since you don’t buy a screen for the back, but if style is an issue don’t expect to find it here.

The very first thing that you should look for in a budget monitor is at least a high enough resolution for full HD picture and we got it here. 1920 x 1080 looks great with ASUS vivid pixel technology you have nice clarity and a vibrant picture that works well with a variety of media. With a 80 million to 1 contrast ratio you can differentiate colors really well after you calibrate the screen to your preferences.

The quality is really quite impressive for a monitor with such an affordable price as it runs circles around much of its higher priced competition. It is not a hardcore gamers monitor but with a 5 millisecond response time it holds up well with the top dogs. It does not have the adaptive technology to sync up with your video card, however as long as your computer brings the power it does have the speed to match up with a powerful rig. Surpassing sixty frames per second with such a smooth picture is a rare feat for this range and ASUS should be applauded.

Extra Features

Features are the main bait when it comes to attracting consumers to their monitors. After the screen size and the resolution the response is always. “That’s nice so what else?” Here the what else is the ASUS eye care package. I hope you weren’t expecting something crazy, but with a sub 300 monitor eye care is about the best you can expect and it is not to be undervalued. Overtime the blue light and flickering can have serious long term effects such as effecting how you sleep. These are the main issues ASUS focused on so you can switch between different modes for the situation.

You can also set it so you switch to different modes at certain times so you can prepare the dimmer for around when you sleep so your computer doesn’t add to the insomnia. Our eyes are definitely something we take for granted so you never know how much the protection can help in the long run.

ASUS VC279H | Slim Bezel Black 27″ Monitor Conclusion

When you are buying a monitor most buyers belong to two separate camps. Either they know what they are looking for and know what they want. Or they are just looking for something that will work relatively well and last them a while performing its duties adequately.

This ASUS model suits the second type of consumer as a nice value model that packs enough features and capabilities to standout on its own among the more affordable spectrum of monitors. It checks all of the necessary boxes and even pushes others well past the benchmarks set by other monitors on its level the response time in particular. At the same time it does not have any feature that brings the whole package together making it a specialized must have.

Following that up the design is the definition of simple coming in a monotone all business black. Still the picture is gorgeous and the screen size is great and it is not necessarily missing anything that you will find in similarly priced competitors. When you take that all into account as long as you are not the first type of customer who needs something specific this is an excellent choice (definitely on list best bezel monitors) for the average joe who just wants a great looking monitor without too much headache.
