AOC has provided us the visuals loving public with a great monitor for anyone whose interested in seeing the baseline for superb visuals. Even though it’s just the baseline, the high resolution and IPS display combine to make a gorgeous picture. This Agon model doesn’t look flashy as far as product design because instead it packs the most power it can into a 27 inch monitor for a competitive price. It does run above six hundred bucks a bit which might be a little steep for many, thankfully when you look at the total package this is a pretty good price.
You could spend a couple hundred more and get a larger size with bells and whistles but if you want to spend the minimum for top tier visuals you won’t find a better picture for much less. With four USB ports this is the monitor for someone who favors quality along with utility.
Design and Features
This Agon channels its inner dragon to create a vibrant and colorful display. The monitor features IPS technology for its superior visual quality. IPS is the current industry standard for the largest array of colors combined with crisp visibility. The IPS is compounded by the level of resolution this monitor provides with a 2560 x 1440 resolution.
This Quad HD display allows for picture quality that is four times as clear as standard 720P HD. Whether you are trying to zoom in on a giant watching an episode of Attack on Titan or you are commanding a gigantic battle force in a game like Civilization you will not be disappointed by the superb picture quality of this monitor.
Crisp, beautiful visuals are nothing though if you don’t have the speed to keep up with the action on the screen. Thankfully this monitor has you covered with a blazing fast 165 hz refresh rate ensuring that the only stutter you see will occur when you blink. The frames will barely drop when connecting to a display port as we still have a very solid 144 hz refresh rate. On top of thats the IPS delivers exceptional speed with a 4 millisecond response time that restricts error to human.
With a 350 cd/m2 brightness score we have a varying contrast ability that surpasses many monitors that cost more. This model also features AOC’s shadow control which allows you to adjust to three separate levels to ensure that visibility does not drop off when you are playing games that feed off the darkness. All the visible capabilities combine to create an awesome monitor for any gamer who wants to see what their graphics card can do at its best. This is supplemented by this models Nvidia G Sync compatibility that allows it to work along with your graphics card to synergistically push the limits of your work station.
You will appreciate how this monitor eliminates screen tearing and the dreaded screen lag that can mean the difference between life and death in the world of competitive gaming.
Here is a spot that this monitor really separates itself from the competition. Most monitors don’t have a single USB port, but this model trounces usual two that high end monitors offer by doubling it offering four including one for high speed charging. This is really useful in a world where everyone has a smart phone but great charging is still hard to find.
We also have a HDMI port along with an additional 1.2 display port so however many monitors or extra peripherals you want to connect this monitor will not have any issues. The base is ergonomically designed to work with whatever surface it is placed on. It is not the flashiest but it does look good and it is fully adjustable allowing you to adjust the height as well as the angle both vertically and horizontally.
If you do not like the stand it is also possible to mount it on the wall. Speakers are included built in to the monitor though they are not of the highest quality so don’t bank on them. You will probably want to use headphones or separate speakers is you are true audiophile.
As far as your money goes you will not find many monitors that pack so many additional features.
AOC Agon AG271QG Conclusion
If this monitor was an Avenger it would be Captain America, it doesn’t have the flash of an Iron Man or the mythical power of Thor, but just like Captain America it gets the job done well and you can count on it to deliver.
The price is a bit high but it is well within the range that you would expect for a monitor with these type of capabilities. The picture is great with its high resolution, the IPS display, and a 27 inch screen. It looks good enough that it could replace your television in a pinch and it would probably be an upgrade.
With the looks being backed up by impressive speed this is just a great monitor if you don’t mind all of the flash being confined to the screen. All of the connectivity and extra feature round out the tool belt on this bottom of the top tier jack of all trades.
I highly recommend this monitor for gamers who want superb visuals without breaking the bank that its flashier competitors demolish.
