When you walk into a party this is the type of monitor that catches your eye from across the room. Adapting modern technology to create a 37.5 inch curved IPS display that stands out in any crowd Acer throws a haymaker with this model. The price is a bit steep above one thousand bucks a bit but that is not a negative when you look at everything included.
Great for any type of user from graphics designers to gamers thanks to a tremendous amount of colors combined with tweaks made for gamers. Insane amount of connectivity along with built in powerful speakers create a convincing total package. This is the type of monitor you might expect to see in a super heroes base of operations, a heavy hitter.
Design and Features
The first topic of conversation has to be the massive 37.5 in curved IPS display. This might not be as significant if it was not so large, or it was not IPS or curved. However getting all of this together in a monitor puts it automatically in the top class for picture quality, design, and size among its top tier competitors.
IPS is top of the line, 37.5 inches is on the high end for monitor size, and curved displays are all the rage. The IPS display works synergistically with the extremely high contrast ratio of 100,000,000 to 1 giving you a large range of colors reaching up to 1.07 billion individual colors.
This combined with the 100% sRGB coverage and 6-axis color adjustment create a stunning level of true to life realism in your media. Curved monitors naturally reduce eye wear so they added on blue light correction and flicker less technology to create a screen that eliminates eye wear.
They also help create a truly immersive viewing experience by enveloping the viewer. The 3840 x 1600 resolution is not quite top of the line but it definitely makes its home among the top tier. With the QHD widescreen we are getting ultra crisp visuals for any activity.
For gaming we have AMD Freesync technology to match up with your AMD video card. This is the equivalent though slightly better than Nvidia’s G Sync technology so make sure you don’t mix and match with your video card because that would be a waste. The 5 ms response time is super fast though not quite the 4 ms that is the prefered statistic for a high end monitor. The 75 hz refresh rate is also a step behind the top of the line but should be sufficient for many gamers.
Acer also has four separate lighting effects to apply to your gaming to achieve unique quality visuals. This model has an avalanche of visual capabilities that make the type of monitor that breeds jealousy like a fish breaths in water.
After gushing about this monitors visual capacity you would think that they would go light on the extras. Fortunately for any interested purchaser Acer instead went the route of spoiling anyone willing to take their monetary leap of faith.
First I have to mention the DTS sound out of two 7 watt speakers. It is not often that you find a monitor that actually has good speakers so its definitely a nice perk and removes another item from your shopping list. Now on to the connectivity which is equally impressive. Starting with your monitor connectivity we have a 2.0 HDMI, a couple 1.2 display ports one for in and the other for out, and a MHL 2.1 port. MHL is newer standing for Mobile High-Definition Link giving you the ability to mirror content from your smartphone or tablet.
Continuing the excellent connectivity this monitor moves past the standard couple 3.0 usb ports and even goes past the high end four 3.0 USB ports to deliver you those four ports along with a upgraded 3.1 type-C port so the only limit to your peripherals is how many you own. Acer went out of their way on this model to pack in everything that might catch the eye of someone with an interest in the domain of top tier computer monitors.
Acer XR382CQK Conclusion
After reading about all of those goodies we come face to face with the biggest obstacle on this model.
The price tag is going to run you so it is not for the faint of heart. However with great price comes great responsibility (to deliver value, thank you Spiderman) and Acer picked up the torch and marched it all the way to their goal. It is not often that you see a monitor that is not only a jack of all trades but also performs them at a spectacular level.
Whether you are a gamer, graphic designer or just someone who enjoys good visuals this monitor shouldn’t disappoint. Its only weak point there is it is not the fastest when it comes to response time and refresh rate so if you want hundreds of frames per second look elsewhere or remove some of your data so you turn back from a robot to a normal human being and you will be pleased. Just the picture quality, screen size, and design were probably enough to earn this monitor its high price line.
When you throw in the superior connectivity and a decent sound system you create a true no brainer as long as you can afford it.
